PM: Interest High In Ginn Development

Cable news should stop its increasing frivolity

I thought I'd turned to the wrong station, but MSNBC's logo flashed at me from the bottom-right corner. Confused, I put down the remote. I then watched as Joe Scarborough of "Scarborough Country" grilled a specially assembled panel on Britney Spears' supposed breast implants, her decision to pose nude while pregnant, and why in the world 12-year-old boys like to watch her dance half naked. After this stimulating discussion, the feud between Star Jones and Barbara Walters was analyzed, and the show ended with a picture of the winner of the World's Ugliest Dog Contest. Worse yet, Scarborough is a former congressman. No wonder Congress never does anything productive. Aside from a brief breaking-news update on terrorism and a short conversation with a man investigating Jiffy Lube, I felt as if I had just watched a poor episode of Entertainment Tonight.

Some hard facts about democracy in the region

Look in the dictionary for the verb 'to elect' and the first definition is usually 'to choose'. It is, however, the second definition that springs most readily to the minds of most Jamaicans: 'to choose (a person) by vote'.

The authors are members of the teaching staff in the department of Government, Sociology and Social Work at the UWI's Cave Hill campus. Their book is intended to provide a historical, descriptive and analytical account of elections and its processes in the Commonwealth Caribbean, spanning the six decades since the introduction of universal adult suffrage in the region.

A valuable compendium of statistical data, for analysts and party officials, as well as for students and others interested in the evolution of Caribbean democracy and its prospects into the 21st century and beyond, the book is dedicated to the memory of Patrick Emmanuel, former Deputy Dean of the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) at Cave Hill, on whose pioneering compilations and analysis of party systems published in 1992 the authors have sought to build.

The Sky Box

While all the hustle and bustle of a busy day at The Mall at Marathon is taking place, The Sky Box is a welcome retreat from the ordinary. Streamlined and sophisticated, one is transported to the upscale nightspots of places such as New York and Los Angeles.

Conveniently located near police stations, and fitted with ample parking, the Sky Box is the upscale locale for persons looking for something out of the ordinary.

From the outside, the Sky Box seems to be a small spot, but contrary to that belief, its deck, patio and indoor bar host close to 200 people, and its overall seating capacity can accommodate up to 500 people. Its décor is upscale, cosmopolitan, and sleek. The bar area is framed with 11 flat screen televisions and pictures of boxing, basketball, and baseball legends.

Interval supports CTO education foundation

Interval International, a vacation exchange company, and resorts affiliated with its exchange network, announced their continued financial support of Caribbean tourism education with a $20,000 donation to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Education Foundation.

The check was presented by David Callaghan, vice president resort sales and service, Interval International, to Hon. Pamela C. Richards, CTO Chairman and Commissioner of Tourism for the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Jacqueline Johnson, CTC, chairman of the CTO Foundation, as part of Caribbean Week in New York City.

"This is the seventh year Interval International and its resort affiliates have made a donation to the CTO Foundation, an organization that has done so much to educate Caribbean-based students in the hospitality and tourism professions," said Callaghan.
