System expected to soak S. Fla.

A broad area of low pressure carrying plenty of rain and thunderstorms is expected to drench South Florida this weekend and mark a return to a cycle of afternoon showers.

The low pressure system is large, "messy," and without a well-defined center of circulation, but it could strengthen into a tropical or subtropical depression today, said Jack Beven, a National Weather Service hurricane specialist.

Incredible day for Federer and Bjorkman

LONDON (Reuters) - Roger Federer and Jonas Bjorkman were both incredible in their own ways at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

Swiss defending champion Federer produced his best tennis of the tournament to reach the semi-finals with a 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory over the last man to beat him on a grasscourt, Croatian Mario Ancic.

There he will face the unexpected challenge of unseeded 34-year-old Swede Bjorkman, who won a four-hour, five-set quarter-final marathon against Czech 14th seed Radek Stepanek.

Cyprus’s Marcos Baghdatis was not bad either. The 21-year-old Australian Open runner-up knocked out Australia’s 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt 6-1 5-7 7-6 6-2.

After days of sweltering sunshine, stormy skies enveloped southwest London, bringing with them rain showers that meant over two hours of play was lost.

Stick with the rules

If the Bahamas Electricity Corporation, the state-owned power company, with a monopoly for supplying electrical power in the country, were to give its employees an increase in salary today, the general public will be heard to groan almost immediately as practically every home-owner, who's connected to the city supply, will see a drastic change in the amount owed. They will be crying and complaining about the high cost of living, how high their "light" bills are and how they cannot be expected to pay those "big" bills on their small salaries.

And if the members of the Bahamas Electrical Workers Union do not get the asked for salary increases, the whole country could become hostages, while everyone and their cousins, including politicians, will be doing double duty in trying to resolve the situation.
